One of Bloomsbury’s premiere Victorian
Mansions Blocks with beautifully kept gardens, Ridgmount Gardens
is regarded as being one of the West End’s finest settings.
Constructed
in the 1890s, this attractive red brick block occupies an island
site and comprises of 149 apartments ranging from One to Four
Bedrooms set over lower ground, ground and 4 upper floors with

Ridgmount
Gardens, built around 1890, appears for the first time as a Listed
Building in the 1891 Census. In 1891 the original building records
16 heads of households with the basement being taken up with kitchen,
dining room and possibly the caretakers flat. By 1901, with the
Huntley Street extension bringing the building to its present
size, they had 37 heads of households.
On
26 October 2006, a Blue Plaque was unveiled at Flat 34. This flat
was occupied by
Bob Marley in 1972 as the Wailers were making a name for themselves.
